HoiAn Specialities

Hoi An is well known for its delicious food. Besides Asian and European dishes, the local specialities such as Cao Lau (Hoi An Traditional Yellow Noodle), White Roses and Wonton are served at Monsoon Restaurant .

- Cao lau (Nouilles jaunes traditionnelles Hoi An)

Cao Lau is a noodle dish. The noodles are made with rice flour soaked in ash water and then cooked three times. The Cao Lau is usually served topped with sliced Vietnamese barbecue pork (sliced pork Xa Xiu- Char siu), vegetables, bean sprouts, fried rice crackers and spices. Only the water exploited from Ba Le well at Hoi An can be used to make authentic Cao Lau.

- Wonton

This dish comes from China but has been adapted by the inhabitants to suit local tastes. Similar to Ravioli, Wonton is made with rice flour and filled with cooked paste of shrimp, pork and egg. There are many kinds of Wonton dishes, such as fried Wonton, Wonton soup or Wonton and yellow noodle soup.

- White Rose

Many people like these cakes not only for their delicious flavor but also for their beautiful appearance. The cake is made with rice flour and stuffed with shrimp paste. The translucency of the flour along with the color of the shrimp gives it the appearance of a white rose petal. Thus, the French gave it the name of "white roses". This dish is served topped with crunchy bits of fried garlic and served with a sweet fish sauce.
